News     Sitemap     Home       SIA honours top supporting agents in Gujarat 24th November ,1999 Issue Ahmedabad Singapore Airlines (SIA) and its General Sales Agent in Gujarat, Galaxy Travels, held award-presentation ceremonies in Surat, Baroda and Ahmedabad for their top supporting passenger and cargo agents for 1998-99. The top agents of Surat were felicitated at a dinner function held at Holiday Inn on November 17. A special lunch was hosted at WelcomGroup Hotel on November 18 for the top agents in Baroda and the same evening, Ahmedabad's top agents were honoured at a dinner at Holiday Inn. SIA's General Manager, India, Mr. Lean Kian Hai, thanked the agents for their support and presented each of them with a special commemorative plaque. In Ahmedabad, in addition to the five top passenger agents, SIA also felicitated its three cargo agents — Express Kargo Forwarders Pvt. Ltd, Patco Cargoes, Tulsidas Khimji PVt. Ltd. SIA commenced operations in India in 1970 and today it is the only airline to the South-East Asian region and connecting all four metros — Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata. The airline operates 23 passenger flights a week between India and Singapore — seven services a week from Mumbai to Singapore, daily services from Chennai, six from Delhi and three from Kolkata. The state-of-the-art B777 Jubilee aircraft operates on the Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai routes (Mumbai and Chennai are also served with the B747 Megatop aircraft), while the Singapore-Kolkata route is served by A310 operations. In addition, SIA operates twice-weekly B747 Megatop services between Mumbai and Manchester, according to a release issued by SIA. Cargo is uplifted in the bellyhold of SIA's passenger flights. In addition to the cargo space on its passenger services, dedicated freighter services are offered to Indian exporters on SIA's latest B747 Mega Ark freighter aircraft operating thrice-weekly from Mumbai, and twice-weekly from Chennai, Bangalore and Delhi. SIA is the world's most awarded airline. Its high standards of customer service and operating performance have been consistently recognised through major international awards. The airline, especially renowned for its inflight service, receives accolades from more than 30 international organisations or publications involved in travel, tourism or business. With a number of these awards won several times in successive years, more than 100 individual honours have been added to SIA's collection. SIA is a favourite with the Indian traveller as well. This is borne out by the fact that the airline has bagged the prestigious International Airline of the Year award at the H&FS Awards for Excellence in Hospitality in the last two consecutive years — 1998 and 1997 (and also earlier in 1993).
